Former Rangers player Scott Nisbet has urged the Rangers coach to keep ties with their Scottish roots by signing local players. He agrees that Rangers need to strengthen during the summer, but he believes that Mark Warburton should also give chances to Scottish players.
Mark Warburton is keen to improve Rangers during the summer, and he has already made a couple of stunning signings. Indeed, he has successfully convinced Joey Barton to sign for Rangers amidst interest from a couple of Premier League clubs. Among other players that have already signed for Rangers, we have Jordan Rossiter, Matt Crooks, and John Windass.
However, Rangers has yet to sign a player from Scotland, and Scott Nisbet believes that this is a massive mistake. He said that all the successful Rangers sides in the past were made up of a Scottish core, and he believes that Mark Warburton should do the same. There is nothing wrong in signing talented foreigners to strengthen the team but we must be careful not to destroy the team identity.
He said that the team he played in had great English players, but there were also a good number of Scottish players in there. Indeed, it was a team consisting of a majority of Scottish players that went undefeated in the Champions League in 1992-1993. When he was talking about how to bet on football, he echoed other pundits in saying that Rangers had a great chance of doing well in their return to the SPL, but they needed to remember their roots.
The former Rangers player believes that next season will be an exciting one for Rangers as they will be back in the Scottish Premier League. He thinks that Mark Warburton already has an idea of the team he wants and that he trust him to take Rangers to the next level. Indeed, it is believed that Rangers are not done yet with their transfer dealings and that there are still more players to come.
