The race to sign Ajax wonderkid Ryan Gravernberch has continued to hot up as Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona have reportedly joined a long queue of clubs who want to snap up the young star this summer. Sometime last month it was reported that English Premier League clubs Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City were all interested in signing him, but the competition is hotting up with Barca now joining the list.
Italian Serie A giants Juventus and AS Roma have also been touted with an interest in the starlet and he could face a dilemma on where he will be playing his football next season if the list of clubs keeps growing this long and this fast.
Gravernberch is an 18-year-old young star who joined Dutch Eredivisie outfit Ajax back in 2010 at age 8 and has been there till this moment. He gained recognition after getting promoted to the first team during the 2018-19 season after some strings of fine performances with the youth setup.
He was handed his debut in a record-setting fashion as he became the youngest ever Ajax player to feature for the club in a league match. He has not looked back since then and has continued to not only impress his employers but also he has been attracting interest from across Europe.
He has played as many as 38 appearances so far this season and has scored four goals and recorded six assists. He’s enjoying his football currently at Ajax but his long-term stay at the Dutch club could be under question as the tussle to sign him is expected to go down the wire.
Barcelona’s eagerness to sign midfield talents to replace their aging players could see them act faster than the rest of the interested clubs and the midfielder could follow the path of former Ajax star Frenkie de Jong who swapped Ajax for Barca some months ago.
